Introducing The Salty Dog Collar Collection!

Dewey is super excited to share his latest threads with you guys!  We are so lucky to live in the Casco Bay area where trips to the beach, hops onto ferries, and walks to lighthouses are part of our every day routine.

These Salty Dog Collars fit right in around these parts!!!

(Doesn't DewDog look handsome?  His ears kept flapping out like little kites!)

We are so excited about these collars!  We can't think of a better use for retired sails then recycling them into super sturdy and stylish dog collars!

Dog collars made from old sails are perfect for the hound who enjoys feeling their ears flapping in the wind as they sail away on their next adventure!  Each collar tells it's own unique story, whether it's a wrinkle from an intense regatta race or a tale from a moonlit voyage through tropical waters, each collar shares it's experiences navigating the the 7 seas!

Checkout all the sailcloth collars - Coast Guard, Port & Starboard, Casco Bay, and Downeast.
We're also excited to offer collars out of retired Kevlar® sails!

Kevlar® is lightweight and extraordinarily strong material and has become the predominant fiber for racing sails.  It is stronger than steel for its weight and five or more times more stretch resistant than polyester.  People, Kevlar® is used to make bullet proof suits!  I'm confident it's not possible to find a sturdier dog collar anywhere!

Meet Force 10:
And the rest of the Kevlar® collection:  Gale Warning, Tropical Storm, and the Nor'easter.

Oh!  And here's our recycled sail cloth Salty Dog Leashbag!

Will you be sailing this summer?  Where to?

PS - A favorite book around here is Salty Dog by Gloria Rand.

Spinach Green Yoda Dog Biscuits

It's about time we made some more dog treats around here.  I wanted to make little hedghogs crisps (they'll be next), but my 4 year old had another idea.

"Mommy, can we please make Yoda cookies?!?"

How could I pass that up?  Yoda is one of my all time favorite dudes.  So we gave it a go and I'm really please with how they turned out!  Please note, these are biscuits and not cookies.  They are green and not toasty brown.  They are definitely the best dog treats in the galaxy.

Yoda Dog Biscuits

1/2 Cup Butter
1/4 Cup Oil
1 Egg
1/2 Cup Cooked Spinach (wring out the water!)
2 Cups White Flour
1 Tbls Baking Powder
1 tsp Baking Soda

In a blender (I used a Vitamix) pour 1/4 cup of oil and add the drained spinach.  Now, blend the star troopers out of it!!!  After 1 - 2 minutes add 1/5 of your room temperature butter.  Blend for an additional 4 minutes...I'm not kidding.  BLEND. IT.

In mixer cream the rest of the butter with the spinach mix and add 1 egg.

Mix together the white flour with the baking powder and baking soda.

Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet mixture.

Transfer to a lightly floured counter and knead for 1 minute.

Roll out and cookie cutter out some Yoda shapes.  We used the Yoda from this set.

Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 10 minutes - do not over bake or your Yoda's will lose that nice green color!

These cookies pretty much take the cake on realistic touches... these Yoda treats come complete with Yoda hair and everything!

When 900 years old, you reach...Look as good, you will not." - Yoda

The best part is that Abby and Dewey LOVE them!  Snatched them right up!

And since we're on the subject, you've gotta listen to The Bark Side:

Go Fetch! Go Green! Collar Recycle Program

For years now, when a Abby or Dewey have worn a collar to it's fullest, I just cut the hardware out and reuse it on the next design. I've finally decided to offer a program that will allow every Classic Hound user the same opportunity. So please don't throw your used collars in the trash! Each Classic Hound collar/leash is made with metal hardware that will long outlive (many times over!) the collar itself. I shutter to think about all the thousands of pieces of beautiful hardware going in the trash and LOVE the idea of keeping them out of our landfills.

Read below if you're interested in saving money by trading in your old collars (didn't my sister do a great job creating Abby playing fetch with a collar? I love the GO FETCH logo!) Introducing:

Photobucket

Same strong & dependable hardware with a new cutting edge design!

Thanks to a few more emails like Regina's we are excited to introduce a collar and leash "recycle" program to help reduce the amount of materials going into our landfills. We believe in being environmentally responsible in all aspects of business here at Classic Hound, from the biodegradable bags we dispense at our trade shows to practices we implement around our sewing studio. It only makes sense to offer a reward program to those who would like to rescue retired collars leashes (or at least the metal hardware) from going in the trash.

Now you have the option to trade-in your old Classic Hound items for $5 - $7 off your next collar/leash purchase!

How do we play?

Trade-ins are as follows, COLLARS for COLLARS and LEASHES for LEASHES. It's as simple as that!

What's our treat? How much will we save?

$7.00 off per returned collar and $5.00 per returned leash

You will receive a coupon code via email for every collar and/or leash hardware set sent back for reuse. So if you send back one collar plus one leash, that’s $12.00 of your next collar and leash purchase. Send 3 Classic Hound collars back to us and get $21.00 off your next 3 collar purchase!

Woof! We're excited! Tell us what to do!

Mail your outdated (yet still in working order) Classic Hound collar(s) and leash(es) back to us to trade-in the old threads for new ones. Same hardware pieces but new cutting edge designs! We will perform safety tests on each piece of hardware before sewing them back into the new collar of your choice.

In the event that a collar or leash is sent back to us and we find the item itself to be in perfect working order and still looking fabulous, we will donate it to the local dog shelter of our choice. In cases like this, we would sew brand new hardware into your new collar or leash and you will still enjoy the same rebate.

We reserve the right to refuse a trade in on items that are used beyond recognition and with hardware that has been abused beyond the ability for reuse. You will be notified via email if this should occur. Remember this is a program to promote recycling and reuse of perfectly fine metal hardware from Classic Hound products no longer being used or enjoyed.

Where do I send my trade-in collars and leashes?

PO BOX 2218 South Portland, ME 04116

Program Terms & Conditions (the rules of the game)

To qualify for the discount, a Classic Hound Leash and/or Collar purchase is necessary. Limit one coupon code for each item purchased from Classic Hound. Only valid on purchases of a collar and/or leash. All submissions become the property of Classic Hound. Offer valid to purchasing customers only. Classic Hound reserves the right to refuse unsafe trade-ins from participation - only working parts are valid. Processing begins when your used items are received. Classic Hound is not responsible for lost, late, or missing trade-in submissions.
