Congratulations Chester Scotties!!

Chester Scotties wins the Scottie Dog Bag! How appropriate!Congratulations!

Here is what Chester has to say about her favorite scotties:

My two favorite Scotties are Aspri and Mavri, our wheaten and black girls. They are the light of my life with their funny little fey Scottie ways. Aspri protects the house and yard - she's always on duty and takes her job very seriously. Squirrels, birds, kids on bikes, strangers - BEWARE! :) And Mavri is our playful girl - she carries her little red ball everywhere and begs all who cross her path to play with her. These two dogs bring me back from the brink of depression almost every day when I get home from the daily grind and they are waiting to lavish me with kisses and tempt me with their toys. These are the first Scotties we've ever had, and we love them more each day.
Hey! Thanks for giving me a chance to run on about my two braw little loves!

Sounds like it was love at first bark! Congrats Chester Scotties!
Thank you to all who participated! Next Wednesday there will be another fabulous giveaway, so stay tuned!

Mouthwatering Monday!

Abby has been having a hard time coming when she is told, so I thought I should have some treats around so she would have more of an incentive. Well today I thought, why not just make some of my own! I found a nice recipe for dog biscuits on allrecipes.com believe it or not! A lovely little site I love to visit for ideas on dinner for my family. Not only do they have great recipes for humans, but for dogs too! As soon as these cute little bone biscuits came out of the oven, Abby and Dewey were going ballistic. Just the smell was tantalizing enough! Once they were cooled I let them each try one and I wasn't even able to get a good picture of them munching on one because they snapped them up so quickly. They're a hit at my house, try them out and I'm sure they will be at yours too!

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup margarine
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 3/4 cup cornmeal
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3 cups whole wheat flour
DIRECTIONS
  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). In a large bowl, combine rolled oats, margarine, and boiling water. Let stand 10 minutes. Grease cookie sheets.
  • Thoroughly stir in cornmeal, sugar, bouillon, milk, Cheddar cheese, and egg. Mix in flour, 1 cup at a time, until a stiff dough has formed.
  • Knead dough on a lightly floured surface, mixing in additional flour as necessary until dough is smooth and no longer sticky. Roll or pat out dough to 1/2" thickness. Cut with cookie cutter (I prefer bone shaped), and place 1 inch apart onto the prepared cookie sheets.
  • Bake 35 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown. Cool before serving. Store in a loosely covered container.

  • Notice Abby in the background? She could tell something good was on it's way!

    Ready for the oven!

    Summer Fun

Here is Abby regally showing off her new Classic Hound tag collar and brand new tags! Red becomes her, don't you think? Abby is sporting a 'Whippet Real Good' and a solitary 'A' for Abby. :)

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

And I couldn't resist mentioning this little adventure! Rowan and I went out for a walk and he announced that he spotted a 'Bug!' on our front lawn. Upon closer inspection, we found that our bug was a cicada. Rowan called him 'Cayduh'. We decided to release Cayduh back into the wild after a few hours, but before doing so, we snapped a few photos! The cicadas have come and we can hear their humming while the sun shines, summer is truly here!

    Farm Dog

Farm Dog of Tennessee offers a variety of tasty and healthy treats for your pup! These biscuits are grain-free, vegan, and sustainably-sourced, so you know that you're not only doing your dog a favor but the Earth as well. All the ingredients used are ecologically harvested, free of herbicides and pesticides, and produced in the United States. With 'Variety Packs' available, your dog can try them all!

And I really like the 'Hard Tack' thin biscuit strips, that make it easy to break off smaller or larger treats depending on the size of your pooch. I think Dewey just drooled on my elbow just looking at these pictures!

    ZuZu wins for Sunshine!

ZuZu wins!, originally uploaded by ClassicHound.

ZuZu was our big winner for this week. CONGRATULATIONS! Sounds like this collar could not be going to a more deserving "Good Doggy". Listen to what ZuZu says about Sunshine and her new proud papa, Jerry:

"=^..^= after a weekend enveloped in a new rescued puppers realization that life might just include kind people ... I see this gorgeous offering! I must speak up for Jerry and Sunshine!

My friend was recently acquired by a sweet little 3-yr old girl named, Sunshine ... And although there are still clouds in this brand new relationship (2-weeks new) only time will care for those as Sunny learns about love. One thing that could be changed immediately is that awful collar Sunny came home with. Sigh. You know the ones? The standard ugly blah-thing given to each new pup as it enters a facility to hold it's tags. Ugh. Jerry took it off her and she's running his house naked now until he finds another.

As his every other sentence is GOOD GIRL as he tries to reassure Sunny ... Nothing could convey the proud truth more than a collar that proclaimed aloud, GOOD DOGGIE!

So, for Sunshine and her new proud papa, Jerry (both of whom have already won the big prize-each other) I say, Hot Diggity Dog what a beautiful collar! Paws crossed here at the cottage that they might be entered to win. Again :o)

xo love, zUzU & Caila (who rescued me in 2007)"

Awwww. I hope Sunshine enjoys her new collar!

    Mouthwatering Monday

Do these even look like dog treats? This looks like something I enjoy making called chocolate volcano. If my dog loves these half as much as I love my chocolate volcano, they're sure to be a hit.
These treats, created by thegourmetbone on etsy, are made of carob and peanut butter. Now I didn't know what carob was, so I went on Wikipedia to find out (don't you just love Wikipedia?). It's basically a pea plant which is popular in the Mediterranean. If you want to learn more click here. When you buy these "Pup Cakes" as they're called, you get 2 of them plus 2 dog toys for only $7.50! Sure sounds like a steal to me!

    Feature Friday

This week the World's Ugliest Dog contest was held. The winner, Pabst, is a boxer mix and he won $1500 for being so ugly! Personally, I think the dog shown below is uglier. Her name is Miss Ellie (a Chinese Crested Hairless). Don't you think that's the coolest picture?
