How To Measure Your Dog For A Perfect Fit
As it turns out, sometimes it's tricky picking the correct size for the fashion hound in your life. Every so often someone accidentally orders the wrong size for their pooch and it's always a disappointment when the collar you've been anxiously waiting for arrives in the mail...and it's, say, a Small instead of a Medium. When this happens, we're happy to exchange for the correct size (however there is a $10 exchange fee), but it means shipping it back to us and then waiting again for the correct size to arrive. Double the waiting = no fun! Plus that extra $10 stinks too.
So, if even the tiniest bit of doubt exists, measure that puppy's neck!
I'm posting this on the blog in hopes that it will help anyone who may have questions on exactly how to measure your dog for the perfect fit!
. . .
FOR A PERFECT FIT, PLEASE MEASURE YOUR HOUND BEFORE PLACING YOUR ORDER!
To determine which size is best for your hound, refer to the hound silhouette above and measure your hound at both points A and B. Point A should measure around the largest part of your hound's head, usually the point just behind their ears. Then take a second measurement, Point B, around their neck at the point where you would like the collar to rest. Make sure the collar size you choose can open wide enough to slip on over the largest part of your hound's head yet rest comfortably around their neck. (Classic Hound Collars are adjustable unless otherwise noted).
*Please note, choose the smallest martingale collar size that will fit over the largest part of the head (point A). For example, if your dog has a 13 inch neck, the best choice may be the Small size (9" to 15"), rather than the Medium (12" to 18"). If you are not sure which size is right for your hound, especially if your dog is of a non-sighthound breed, please provide us with your pet's measurements during the checkout process.
Simply make a snug measurement of Point B, where you would like the collar to rest comfortably on your dog's neck - that's it!

Whale of a Treat! Crispy Whale Cheddars!
Ahoy Mateys! We've found another dog treat keeper her at Classic Hound Headquarters! This time, I turned to Allrecipes for a little inspiration. As you can see the doggies LOVED them. Abby will snatch up these whale sized treats gently in her mouth, and cleverly hides them somewhere safe until she can get to them later. It's like these little whales are her puppies she fusses over them so.
Recipe notes: I used Better than Bullion instead of beef bullion and substituted honey for the white sugar.
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1/3 cup margarine
- 1 cup boiling water
- 3/4 cup cornmeal
- 2 teaspoons white sugar
- 2 teaspoons beef bouillon granules
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
- 1 egg, beaten
- 3 cups whole wheat flour
Directions
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). In a large bowl, combine rolled oats, margarine, and boiling water. Let stand 10 minutes. Grease cookie sheets.
- Thoroughly stir in cornmeal, sugar, bouillon, milk, Cheddar cheese, and egg. Mix in flour, 1 cup at a time, until a stiff dough has formed.
- Knead dough on a lightly floured surface, mixing in additional flour as necessary until dough is smooth and no longer sticky. Roll or pat out dough to 1/2" thickness. Cut with cookie cutter (I prefer bone shaped), and place 1 inch apart onto the prepared cookie sheets.
- Bake 35 to 45 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown. Cool before serving. Store in a loosely covered container.

Banana Biscotti Bunnies
Perhaps the Easter bunny shouldn't come to our house this year. Abby & Dewey are crunching it up here on these yummy Banana Biscotti Bunnies. We all know how doggies like to chase rabbits, I'm not sure that any rabbit (or hare for that matter) would escape from my two dogs at the moment. These crunchy treats are a hit!
Blend egg, oil and banana together. Add into the dry ingredinets in well. Start combining together. Add water, one teaspoon at a time as needed. Knead by hand on table until mixed thoroughly.
Roll out until doug is about 1" high and use a cookie cutter to punch out the bunnies.
Place on non-stick baking sheets or lightly greased ones. Bake 30 - 40 minutes. Remove and cool for 10 minutes. Slice into 1/2" - 3/4" slices. Place on baking sheets and bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown. Cool. Store in airtight container.

Valentine Dog Treats
My Heart Beets For You Treats
Adapted from Kaboose.com's Red Velvet Pupcakes
I just loved making these dog treats. I did actually make the Red Velvet Pupcakes from Kaboose, but didn't like the cottage cheese frosting it called for, because it didn't turn out like anything that remotely resembled frosting. And since I had my heart set on making heart shaped cookies anyway, I decided to add more flour and make the cupcakes into cookie biscuits. Beet juice gives them their color, and whole-wheat flour gives them fiber.
Ingredients* 1/4 cup canola oil
* 1 cup applesauce
* 1/3 cup beet puree or fresh beet juice
* 1 and 1/2 cups whole-wheat flour
* 2 teaspoons baking powder
Cooking Instructions
Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Line a six-cup muffin tin with muffin cups.
In a large bowl whisk together oil, applesauce and beet puree.
In a separate bowl, combine flour and baking powder. Slowly stir flour mixture into the wet ingredients.
Knead for 3 minutes. Roll out dough to 1/4" and use the cookie cutter of your choice to cut out cookies. Place on prepared cookie sheet (either use parchment paper or grease sheet) and bake 14 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into a cookie comes out clean. Remove cookies from the pan and cool on a rack.
